Fun Stories About Denver’s History
What To Expect
Discover the rich history and evolving flavors of downtown Denver on this 2.5-hour Denver food tour — starting at the legendary Brown Palace Hotel before exploring the newly reopened 16th Street and historic Larimer Square.
Opened in 1892, the Brown Palace has welcomed presidents and celebrities for over a century. From there, your guide will lead you down 16th Street, Denver’s main commercial artery since the 1850s, which just completed a major renovation and grand reopening in 2025. With new gathering spaces, art, and dining, it’s once again one of the best things to do in Denver.
Just around the corner, Larimer Square offers a glimpse into Denver’s earliest days. As the city’s oldest block, it pairs historic charm with some of the best restaurants in downtown Denver.
Along the way, enjoy a curated lineup of tastings — from bison chili to hoisin duck bao — while uncovering the stories that make downtown Denver one of the most vibrant local experiences in the Mile High City. It’s a top-rated guided tour that blends food, history, and culture into one unforgettable .

This tour includes four tastings at award-winning, locally owned restaurants (see the tasting list above). Together, the portions make for a satisfying light lunch — just enough to leave you full but not too full to keep exploring. Come hungry, and you’ll leave happy.
The tour ends at DragonFly Noodle – 1350 16th St Mall.
It’s about a 15-minute walk from where we started, but getting back is easy — the Free MallRide buses run up and down 16th Street all day and will take you right back to the starting point in just a few minutes. It’s a convenient and scenic way to end your tour after a delicious final tasting.
You’ll explore two of Denver’s most iconic downtown destinations — the 16th Street Mall and Larimer Square — each offering a different side of the city’s story.
The 16th Street Mall is a lively, mile-long pedestrian corridor lined with shops, cafés, and restaurants. It’s the center of downtown life and a perfect place to experience the city’s blend of history and modern energy. Your guide will share how this area evolved from a commercial hub in the 1800s to the walkable, food-filled destination it is today.
Just a few blocks away, Larimer Square offers a more intimate, historic feel. As Denver’s oldest block, it’s known for its string lights, Victorian-era architecture, and chef-driven restaurants. Here, you’ll hear how preservation efforts in the 1960s helped save the block — and set the stage for Denver’s thriving dining scene today.
The 16th Street Food Tour includes just under one mile of light, easy walking spread out over about two and a half hours. The route is flat and designed at a relaxed pace, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and stories along the way. All tastings are seated indoors, so you can relax and savor each stop in comfort — no rushing, no standing meals, and plenty of time to soak up downtown Denver’s atmosphere between bites.
